As a LANENT representative, Dr Juan Luis François Lacouture, LANENT Vicepresident, participated in the 16th International Conference on Emerging Nuclear Energy Systems, held at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM, by its Spanish acronym) during 26 May to 30 May, 2013. As part of the activities of that conference, a session devoted to the Knowledge Management and Human Resources was organized. During the session, Dr François presented a conference on the nuclear education in Latin America and the Caribbean. During the presentation, he described what LANENT is and explained the nuclear education capacities of each country from the region. In the same session, Ryoko Kusumi, from the European Nuclear Education Network (ENEN), who also participated, explained ENEN’s challenges in response to the industry and regulatory needs. Other presenters were John Roberts, from the University of Manchester, who dealt with the topic of the nuclear university networks in the UK and Gonzalo Jiménez, from the Technic University of Madrid, with a proposal related to the nuclear knowledge management culture in the new generations of nuclear engineers at the UPM. The presentations will be fully available in the conference website in the near future.
Moreover, Dr François and Dr Cecilia Martín del Campo, proffessor at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, held meetings with representatives from the group of the Technological Platform of Nuclear Fission (CEIDEN, by its Spanish acronym) and the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council (CSN, by its Spanish acronym), in furtherance of strengthening existing bonds and identifying the needs and collaboration opportunities in the areas of education and training.
